Heading the ball can be one of the most spectacular skills in soccer. Much is written these days of the danger of heading the ball, but the experts are divided. We do know that heading the ball on the wrong part of the head is painful and potentially harmful.
The part of the head to make contact with the ball is the forehead - just below the hairline and above the eyebrows.
Also, we would not recommend you get into competitive heading situations until your teens. For younger players, learning how to head the ball can be done with a simple, short lobbed service. Even try to keep the ball in the air on your own just by heading. 1, 2, 3 and more. If you can keep it going then you may have to look out. Someone might throw you a fish thinking you are a performing seal.
On your own you can practice your heading as our player does here - against a rebound wall.

If you are kicking a ball around with friends go to our last issue to see how you can organize the Head Tennis game.
As you get better with your heading technique then we'll see you at the Far Post.
